I like to write about fast motorcycles and hot cars. Most of my books include a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by a sexy, handsome hero. My REV ME UP hero personifies the ideal of the hunk on a motorcycle and readers tell me they love him.

My heroines tend to drive convertibles, like I do in real life. For me, there’s nothing more exhilarating than driving fast with the ragtop down. My DESERT FEVER and DESERT WILD heroines share my love of the open road. Though my car is a Sebring and theirs is a Retro Thunderbird, we all savor the feel of the wind in our hair, the sun shining on our faces and the thrilling sensation of speed.

My Sebring hasn’t been new for years, and when my convertible needs replacing, I’ll buy another. My convertible is a guilty pleasure I share with my fast-driving story characters. For as long as there’s a stretch of country road and I’m alive on this earth, I’ll be driving with the ragtop down.

Do you like convertibles and motorcycles?

When I wrote my YA novel, it was first-person POV. I really enjoyed writing it and I think it can be a very effective tool in creating an authentic character voice. It just felt right for that story.

But for some reason, I tend to prefer third person with adult romance novels, both as a writer and a reader. I’m not quite sure why, but it’s what I gravitate toward. I certainly won’t let first-person narration stop me from reading a romance if I’m intrigued by the plot, but I’ve read that some readers are quite turned off by it.

How about you? Do you prefer one style of POV over another, or is it largely irrelevant?

Sorry I’m late, we’ve been working on doing things in the basement, still trying to get all the leaks fixed (we think we did that) and get the place looking decent again (partly there).
But, I was thinking, we all think of construction workers as sexy. The thought of a hard bodied guy that works all day, using his muscles til they glisten with sweat. (We won’t talk about the reality ) That has been used by many advertisers as well as romance authors – and that’s perfectly acceptable to me.

But is home improvement sexy? Or is it the fact that the construction workers are strangers and we can ogle them like they ogle women?
I find my husband incredibly sexy. The man works 50 hours a week and then comes home and sheetrocks/muds/installs vanities/toilets/sink, etc. Just the fact that he knows how to do this stuff and can do it turns me on. (Am I weird for that?)
I also love seeing his biceps <giggle>
Any one else have a S.O that turns them on by doing daily or not so daily things? I also love when he helps around the house – but that’s a different blog. . </giggle>

Since it’s hot out there, I thought we could steam things up in here, too. I’m just putting the finishing touches on a new historical romance novel and I’m looking for book recommendations, since I haven’t had time to take a break and read anything in far too long.

So, what’s the hottest book you’ve read lately? M/m, m/f — anything goes!

Just this week, Barbara Karmazin, a fellow Loose Id author known to many – author and reader alike – lost her battle with cancer. I’ve not had the pleasure that many authors have of meeting Barbara, but nonetheless my thoughts went out to her family. It’s quite strange how internet awareness brings people closer, even strangers.

In the way that this type of news does, it got me to thinking a little about life, destiny, karma and plain old luck – the good and the bad.

This website set out with the intention of providing information to newbie authors (such as we were back then) so there was a little less mystery about how things happen in ePublishing. It’s a bit of a sideways segue, but this sad news reminded me of something quite important that I myself have neglected to attend to – Royalty Rights. I know, a bit of a leap, right, but sometimes it takes a bit of startling news to get the brain thinking further than the monotony of the usual.

All authors need to consider this: We aren’t invincible, so when it comes your time to leave this life, whether by destiny, karma or fickle fate who will be the future recipient/s of your continuing royalties? And what about unfinished manuscripts? It isn’t always as easy as including them as part of your regular estate.

I’m not going to tell you what to do about the two questions above – a good lawyer and/or (preferably ones with experience with royalties/publishing) will give you better advice than I can – especially with so many options available. (Personally, I’m thinking about a trust/fund specifically set for my sons higher education.)

Writing – or selling your writing at least – is about business. Don’t leave such an important decision to chance…or squabbling relatives you didn’t really like to begin with!

As authors we get the question all the time “where do you get your story ideas?”. Our answers vary from life in general, dreams, something strikes us in a movie or on tv, a funny story someone told, etc. It really is all of the above and more. One or two of my stories have come from dreams, one or two have come from a silly idea (Stowaway – a take on Goldilocks and the three bears in space), one came from the question of what would be a heroine’s idea of a dream vacation (Kansas City Shuffle). Well, you get the point.

My most recent release, Lisa’s Summer Cowboys came from another source. A friend wanted to give another friend a very special birthday present. She’d been feeling down, and needed something to make her feel good. So I offered to write story for her.

Okay, that sounds nice and everything, but I have realized something in the last couple years.

1-I don’t work well under deadline. I get writer’s block like you wouldn’t believe.

2. Doing a favor for someone that in turn is for someone else is dumb.

3. When you really want to impress someone extra hard, it is twice if not three times as difficult to get it done.

But all in all, I have to say I am happy with it. Although it took a heck of a lot longer than it should have. I was happy in the middle when I was told she was having dreams about Montana cowboys, and to be honest, once I changed the men to that, lol, the story went smoothly.

So my point is? I don’t know. Maybe remind me not to promise stories? Maybe to mine our friends for ideas? Who knows. I just hope you enjoy reading Lisa’s Birthday present if you get the chance.

I had a flat tire on the highway yesterday, so I got out of the car and opened the trunk to find a spare.

I took out my cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic. They looked so lifelike you wouldn’t believe it!

Cars start slowing down to look at my lifelike men, which made it safer for me to work at the side of the road.

Traffic started backing up. Everybody was honking their horns and waving like crazy. It wasn’t long before a state trooper pulled up behind me.

“What’s going on here?” he demanded.

“My car has a flat tire,” I said.

“Well, what are those cardboard men doing here by the road?”

I couldn’t believe that he didn’t know… so I told him.

“Those are my Emergency Flashers.”
