On the weekend I rented Imagine Me and You, which was completely delightful. I’d never even heard of it, so I was very pleasantly surprised by how good this little British movie was. It’s about a woman who falls in love with another woman on her wedding day. The rub is that her husband is a really great guy, which is very rare in lesbian films, where usually the man in a triangle would be a total jerk. I really liked that you felt for all the characters, and that there was no villain — just confused people who care about each other. The movie is sweet and funny and sad, too. Really nice lighting and camera work, and I always enjoy flicks where the characters live in beautiful London flats that mere mortals could never afford.

Lena Headley and Piper Perabo are also possibly the most gorgeous lesbian couple ever put on film:

Does anyone else have any unconventional romances to recommend?

I really liked this movie, too, Keira.
The supporting characters were very well written — they felt REAL. Each had their own problems and flaws, and were doing the best they could with their lives. And, as you said, the husband character is great — so sad, but still with hope at the end.
I also liked that the filmmaker decided that both of the women could be “feminine” — not because “feminine” is better, but because I think that, too often in movies, filmmakers try to make lesbian couples fit the traditional het “masculine” vs. “feminine” roles.
I didn’t hear about this movie when it was out in theaters, but it’s been getting a lot of play on HBO. Hopefully people are watching. :-)

Oh, that’s good that HBO is showing it! It was such a pleasant surprise, since sometimes the quality of GLBT movies leaves something to be desired. (I’ve taken a chance on renting a few low-budget ones that were just dreadful.)

It’s true about both the women being typically feminine, too. The movie did a great job stepping around a lot of stereotypes.

I haven’t seen this one yet, so I’ll have to check it out. One of my favs is Adam & Steve. It was a cute little offbeat comedy. Of course, I have a strange sense of humor. My SO didn’t like it all. *g*
