NaNoWriMo
October 22nd, 2010 by Talya Bosco
So, it is almost November. People are signing up for NaNoWriMo every where I turn around. (National Novel Writing Month)
For those of you that do not know, NaNoWriMo urges you to write for the month of November. They urge you to write 50,000 words.
I’ve had a couple people make comments about it is ridiculous, you can write 50,000 words of gibberish and that counts.
But that’s not the point. The point is to get people writing, to get people thinking, to get your creative juices flowing.
I “won” the first time I did it. It got me to finish my second full length book. I haven’t “won” in the last 5 years, though, but I sign up every year.
It forces me to take time out of my facebooking
As a professional author, you’d think I know I have to write and that I’d put that time aside anyway, right? Well, let’s save time management for another blog
How many of you are doing NaNo? Do you find it useful? Or more detrimental?

I confess, I’m one of those people who don’t participate in NaNo, though I know many writers who do. I write full-time and I’m fairly disciplined, so I write all year.
I’m impressed. I go through those stages where I write a lot and then I slow down for a while. I need to be better disciplined.
